2026 International Conference on Human Rights: Youth in Asia

- The 2026 International Conference on Human Rights: Youth in Asia (2026 ICHR) is co-organized by East Asia Young Scholars Association (EAYSA), Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) Tokyo, and the Graduate Program on Human Security (HSP) and Research Center for Sustainable Peace (RCSP), the University of Tokyo (hereafter the “Organizers”).
- Young scholars of all academic backgrounds are encouraged to submit their abstracts featuring original research in Asian human rights issues or original research that have significant implications for human rights development in East Asia.
- All submissions must complete the Submission Form. Submissions by email will not be considered.
- Multimedia submissions will not be considered in place of an abstract / panel proposal / essay.
- All works must be submitted in .doc or .docx format. Submissions in other formats will be returned.
- Each author may submit a maximum of three abstracts. (For example, if Author A is the first author of Abstract 1 and the second author of Abstract 2, both will count toward their total of three submissions.)
- This conference accepts three types of submissions: Individual Submissions (Abstract), Individual Submissions (Essay), and Panel Proposal.
- No registration fees are required.
- Please understand that the Organizers will not be able to provide visa supports. Participants are expected to manage their own visa.
Abstracts
- Abstracts must be submitted in .doc or docx format. Submissions in other formats will be returned.
- Abstracts will be unique to each submission, but it is generally recommended that the content include an introduction, summary of methodology and findings, as well as a conclusion. If the nature of your research does not align with this format, be sure to emphasize the main objectives and relevant components of your research.
- Abstracts may be submitted in either English or Japanese. Abstracts in English should be in 600 words, while abstracts in Japanese should be in 1200 words.
- Abstract applications submitted with a paper draft will be prioritized (*this draft will not be considered as an Essays submision; please check your category when completing the submission form).
Essays
- Essays maybe submitted in either English or Japanese. Essays in English should be around 1600 words (inclusive of tables and figures; exclusive of abstract, keywords, references, and biography). Essays in Japanese should be around 4000 words (inclusive of tables and figures; exclusive of abstract, keywords, references, and biography).
- Submission should follow the guidelines of Anchor, which can be checked here.
- This panel is open to submissions including but not limited to summary of reports, original research articles, book and research reviews, and theoretical discussions.
- Submission should utilize the provided word limit to present its research question, methodology, findings, limitations, and conclusions clearly. All tables and figures should be provided with high resolution. References must be provided in an academic manner.
- Submissions accepted to this panel will be published in Anchor after the author(s) presented at the 2026 ICHR. The publication opportunity is exclusive to works submitted to this panel.
- Please note that in addition to the review conducted by the Programing Committee of the ICHR, EAYSA will also conduct editorial checks before publishing the essay in Anchor. Authors will be asked to revise their essays before or after the ICHR for publication when EAYSA found necessary. Authors who refuse to revise their works will not be eligible to present at the conference, and their works will not be published in Anchor.
Panel Proposals
- A Panel Proposal should consist of 3-5 speakers. Each speaker should present one work at the panel.
- The Proposal should be submitted by the Panel Chair, who will be considered as the representative of the proposal and the proposed panel. The Chair may or may not be a speaker at the panel. However, the Chair must be present throughout the panel to moderate the session if the proposal is accepted.
- The presentations included in the proposal should be surrounding a common theme. When submitting the proposal, please include the title and description of the panel at the beginning of the document.
- Following the title and description of the panel, submission should list out the names of the Chair and the speakers.
- The maximum length of the panel is 1 hour and 45 minutes.
- Panel Proposals are open to submissions in English and Japanese.
- The title of the panel should not exceed 20 words.
- The length of the description of the panel should not exceed 300 words.
- The length of the abstract of each speaker’s presentation should not exceed 400 words.
- Proposal should either be fully written in English or Japanese. The language of presentation should be consistent throughout the panel.
General Reminders
- References may be submitted in any style or format, as long as it is consistent throughout the manuscript. References will not be included in the word count.
- By submitting your abstract / essay / panel proposal to this Conference, you have agreed to our terms, conditions, and privacy policies. Applicants must also be aware that accepted abstracts may be digitally published by the Organizers for the conference.
- Given that this event will be held in a hybrid format, accepted applicants may freely choose whether to join the conference in person or online. However, we strongly encourage participants to join us in person.
- Priority will be given to young scholars who are able to share their works in-person.
- You must submit your abstract/essay/panel proposal by the designated deadline. The submission deadline can be checked on the home page. You are strongly encouraged to submit your abstract in advance.
- All submitted abstracts/papers are subject to a peer review process.
- Each accepted author is required to serve as a discussant for another presentation. Authors must attend the entirety of the panel to which they are assigned, in both their roles as presenter and discussant.
- All participants are expected to treat one another with respect.
Terms and Conditions:
By submitting an abstract to the 2025 International Conference for Human Rights: Youth in Asia, the applicant agrees to all of the following terms and conditions:
The applicant agrees that they are submitting their own original work. Plagiarism of any kind is not tolerated. If the applicant submits a proposal on behalf of an organization or cohort of authors, the applicant agrees that they have received the consent of any and all previous co-authors to submit and represent their work.
The applicant also agrees to materially confine their presentation to the contents provided by their proposals if selected to present. If the applicant wishes to remove their abstract from consideration, they must do so, in writing, no less than a month prior to the conference dates.
The applicant understands that the contact information provided is their own and consents to be contacted by 2026 ICHR Task Force about the status of their proposal and presentation.
The applicant (abstract / panel proposal) permits the Organizers to digitally publish submitted abstracts / panel proposals in official event proceedings for the conference. The Organizers will publish submitted abstracts / panel proposal in full as provided by the author(s). The applicant (essay) permits the Organizers to digitally publish submitted essay’s abstract in official event proceedings for the conference and the essay, after editorial review and revisions, in Anchor. The Organizers are not responsible for spelling and language errors in the submitted abstracts. The author(s) of the abstract agree that they are the sole owners of, or have all necessary rights to submit the abstract for publication by the Organizers of 2026 ICHR, and that publication of the abstract does not infringe any intellectual property rights of any third parties.
