Speaker’s summary:
An unexpected result in recent years of globalization has been the advancement of regionalization. Set against the backdrop of increasing economic interdependence in Asia, “Regionalization” is also prospected in internationalization of higher education in the region. This presentation attempts to survey the progress of regionalization in higher education in Asia, focusing on trends and responses of governments and international organizations, and tries to theoretically discuss them.
Speaker’s Bio:
Kazuo KURODA graduated from Waseda University (B.A., 1989), Stanford University (M.A., 1993) and Cornell University (Ph.D., 1996). He has been interested in inclusive education, internationalization of higher education in Asia and global and regional governance of education. He serves as members of several advisory committees of the Japanese Government agencies and UNESCO as well as Visiting Research Fellow at the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development and Vice President (President-elect) of Comparative and International Education Society. His most recent authored book is A History of Japan’s International Cooperation in Education (2023) by the University of Tokyo Press.
